Wekiva High School
Olympia High School
Olympia powered its way into the 9-A District 3 semifinals with a 15-5 quarterfinal win Monday over Wekiva at Apopka High School.
The Titans blasted four home runs, two each by Livia Anderson and Marissa Sidwell, to breeze to their fifth consecutive victory. Olympia will now meet West Orange in the semifinals Tuesday at 5 p.m., also at Apopka.
Anderson’s first home run, a two-run shot in the first inning, helped the Titans grab an early 4-0 lead. Sidwell delivered her second homer of the year in the third inning, a three-run shot, and Anderson followed two batters later with a 2-run homer as Olympia built a 12-1 lead. After Wekiva pushed across four runs in the top of the fifth inning, Sidwell’s two-run shot in the bottom of the inning ended the game by run rule.
Olympia banged out 18 hits in all, reaching double figures in scoring for the fifth straight game. Caryssa Orland was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs and two RBIs and Amanda Plasencia was 3- for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Larissa Rodgriguez also had two hits for the Titans.
Abby Thompson, the first of three Olympia pitchers, picked up the win by pitching the first two innings, allowing only an unearned run.
