Olympia High School
West Orange High School
Olympia saw its season come to an end with an 8-2 loss to defending state champion West Orange Tuesday in the semifinals of the 9-A District 3 tournament. The Titans finished the year with a 13-11 record after winning seven of their final 11 games.
The Titans had their chances against the Warriors, managing eight hits during the game, but stranding 10 baserunners. Olympia scored in the top of the first inning on Caryssa Orland’s first home run of the season, but left two runners on. West Orange used a grand slam in the bottom of the inning to help it grab a 5-1 lead and the Warriors stretched that lead to 8-1 in the second.
After a shaky start, Olympia starting pitcher Abby Thompson settled in and held the high-powered WO offense scoreless over the final four innings. Thompson retired 13 of the final 14 batters she faced and was helped from some terrific play in the outfield from Orland and Livia Anderson.
Amanda Plasencia clubbed her eighth home run of the season in the third inning, but that was all the scoring that the Titans would manage. Olympia left the bases loaded in the fifth and left runners on second and third in the sixth.
Plasencia and Orland each went 2-for-4 and Thompson was 2-for-3. Marissa Sidwell and Anderson each added a hit apiece for the Titans.
Seniors Sidwell, Plasencia, Thompson, Lilly Colon and Kylie Conaway played their final game in an Olympia uniform.
