Olympia stormed back from a 5-0 deficit, but came up just short, seeing its season end with a 6-5 loss at two-time defending state champion West Orange, Tuesday night in the 9-A Regional Semifinals.
A four-run top of the sixth, started by junior Caryssa Orland’s home run, allowed the Titans to knot the score at 5-5. Olympia had the bases loaded and one out later in the inning with the game tied, but could not push across the go-ahead run. West Orange scored the deciding run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth after a Titan error kept the inning alive.
Caryssa Orland finished 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Her younger sister, freshman Cameryn Orland, went 2-for-4 and made a diving catch at shortstop.
Olympia finishes the season 15-12 and won 6 of its final 9 games, with two of the losses coming to West Orange. The Titans were only the second softball team in school history to win a playoff game and no team has advanced farther in the playoffs.
